`Weak health systems, poverty and Aids fuel TB`

Weak health systems, abject poverty and high prevalence rate of HIV/Aids are among the causes of increase of tuberculosis cases, an official from the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has said.
The official, Dr. Fred Lwilla, said lack of awareness on the relationship between HIV/Aids and tuberculosis (TB) was one of the impediments to the government's efforts to contain the disease.
Talking to this paper in Dar es Salaam over the weekend Dr Lwilla, a senior Programme Officer with the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Programme (NTLP), said HIV/Aids was the single greatest factor for developing TB disease and the cause of deaths in Africa. Read source article...
