At the children’s Tanggerang Prison in Banten province, World AIDS Day 2008 was celebrated with art shows and an exhibition on reproductive health.

Children were engaged in information sessions on HIV and AIDS and a prisoners’ theatre group run by the children called SILLAW staged theatrical and music shows.

Data released in September 2008 shows that are at least 15,136 people living with HIV or AIDS in Indonesia. Statistics also show that the majority of these people are aged between 20 and 29.

Unsafe sex and injection drug use are considered the most likely means of transmission among young people in this age group and statistics from November show that 226 boys and 26 girls are being held in prison for drug-related offenses.
